ALL ABOUT SMALL STEPS REHAB

Small Steps Rehab is the only Case Management company in the tri-state area of Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania that focuses solely on the Hispanic Community of injured workers. Our nurses not only speak Spanish but they understand the cultural beliefs that may affect recovery.

A simple example is the use of pain medication.

Many injured workers state “no soy de pastilla” or I do not like to take medication. They have been educated that medications are never good for the body and must be educated that short term use of pain control may be necessary to manage physical therapy and recovery.

Educating on the difference between Tylenol ( the go to pain medication for many Hispanics) and Anti- Inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen, as well as ensuring the injured worker understands that Motrin and Advil are the brand names for Ibuprofen.

Using an English only speaking nurse with an interpreter at the doctor’s office will completely miss the key concerns that may impact the claimant’s recovery.
